President Obama and his family have gone one major step beyond what other presidential families who have stayed on Martha's Vineyard have done---they have purchased their own home. After renting around the island since 2009, the former First Family has finally decided upon their island home.
According to the Dukes County Registry of Deeds, the purchase price is listed at $11.75 million. The former owners of the property are Wycliffe Grousbeck and Corinne Basler Grousbeck. Grousbeck is a private equity investor and owner of the Boston Celtics basketball team.
President Obama will be spending more time at Farm Neck Golf Club.
The sprawling 6,892-square-foot house sits on 29.3 secluded acres fronting the Edgartown Great Pond between Slough Cove and Turkeyland Cove, with views of a barrier beach and the ocean beyond.
Designed by Bradenburger Taylor Lombardo Architects in San Francisco, the home was built in 2001 by John Early, a well-known Island contractor.
