Vineyard Haven, MA

A Wonderful Welcome

Home to the busiest ferry port on island, and the only ferry port to run year round, Vineyard Haven is a wonderful landing spot for visitors and locals alike.

The beautiful natural harbor and the inviting beams from the East and West Chop lighthouses, all visible from the ferry, will call you home and welcome you ashore to Martha's Vineyard.

Vineyard Haven: A Town for All Seasons

Known interchangeably as Tisbury, Vineyard Haven is the year-round town, with the highest population of locals on island. As a result, this is the spot for amenities both practical and fun that last all year long.

Local gems like Mocha Mott's Coffee, Bunch of Grapes Book Store, Shirley's Hardware and Waterside Market, alongside establishments like the UPS Store, Stop and Shop and the Vineyard Haven post office suit the quotidian needs of islanders with first-class service.

In addition, you'll find a full calendar of entertainment, with the historic Capawock movie theater in the center of Main Street and the Martha's Vineyard Film Society bringing the latest cinematic gems.

The Vineyard Playhouse is also located in Vineyard Haven, giving you a taste of theater in an intimate local setting. Often, playwrights try out new plays here and internationally known actors and actresses participate in plays while enjoying a “working vacation.”

Eat, Play, Shop!

Although it caters to a local population, Vineyard Haven is still a destination, and you'll find an abundance of things to do. Main Street is lined with charming boutiques and unique galleries, not to mention more than a couple of places to pick up an ice cream cone or slice of delicious fudge.

Grab breakfast, lunch or dinner at one of the town's many restaurants, including the historic Black Dog Tavern which was founded by local sailing entrepreneur, Captain Robert Douglas. This iconic eatery was one of Vineyard Haven's first year-round restaurants, and its canine mascot has become an international symbol for the island.

If you're looking to head to the water, Owen Park Beach serves as the town harbor and offers pleasant views, or the beach at Lake Tashmoo offers a more rustic and natural setting.

And if boating is your passion, you can pick up a transient mooring in Vineyard Haven harbor. Vineyard Haven is known for the high quality of its sailors, many of whom grew up learning in the MV Sail program for islanders. And if you like friendly racing, join the Holmes Hole Sailing Association for racing from June to October.
